About us
Rice was founded late 1998 - born only a few months after my son Max.
The idea of starting Rice was "under construction" for a while - my French husband Philippe and I wanted changes to our lives - we had lived in Paris for
almost 15 years together. We both had great jobs, but felt the need to slow down - have a life where we both travelled at the same time and enjoy a more quiet lifestyle...
My old dear school friend Hans was based in Thailand - and was already working with homeware.
During a VERY long lunch in the French country side - we decided to try selling some of the things he could get made, and then combine with some
items from Madagascar - all this whilst having our base in Denmark.
Now 10 years later we are 35 people in Rice Denmark - we have a lovely office and showroom in an old shipyard building near the waterfront in Denmark. Furthermore, we employ 12 people in our sales offices around Europe.
Rice Thailand employs 70 people and we have several villages producing different things for us.
We have opened an office in India and employed Himanshu Singh. He roams around the country and sources products for us, and makes sure that all our suppliers are up to standards of our SA 8000 certification.
