Jheel in Jaipur
Jheel, our supplier in Jaipur, India is one example of the effect of cooperating on developing the work environment.
RICE entered a three year project, in cooperation with Danida, to improve conditions on the factory. Before, the workers often worked late and got low wages. The temperature in the production area could reach 50 degrees Celsius during summertime and there were no proper facilities for cold drinking water.
Now the workers have a lunchroom and cold drinking water on every floor and the working hours are fixed and at better wages. Safety has improved, and the workers are provided with safety equipment, and regular evacuation and fire fighting drills are held.
Environmental responsibility has also been of concern to the supplier. Before, the waste water was disposed of into a nearby river. But now, they have constructed a wastewater cleaning system reducing the environmental impact.
